Azerbaijan customs regulations

It is important to know about customs regulations before traveling to Azerbaijan to avoid legal issues and potential fines. As you know, customs regulations widely depend on the country. Before traveling to (or from) Azerbaijan make sure to check the allowance and limits for the next things:

  • Alcohol and tobacco
  • Currency
  • Medicines (especially those containing drugs)
  • Animals
  • Cultural artifacts
  • Plants, fruits, vegetables and other agricultural products

Import regulations in Azerbaijan

Duty-free allowance

Tobacco limit

  • 600 cigarettes;
  • Restricted to travellers 18 years and over.

Bringing alcohol

  • 3 litres of alcohol;
  • Restricted to travellers 18 years and over.

Cash limit

  • Funds of over US$10,000 or its equivalent in other currencies must be declared to the customs authorities.

Other Goods

  • 20 grams of gold.
  • Personal goods up to a value of US$1500 for adults, and US$500 for children.
  • Medication required for personal use should be accompanied by a prescription.

Restricted items

These goods are strictly regulated, and in most cases require a permit to be obtained prior to arrival

  • Up to 5kg of sturgeon fish and 125g of sturgeon fish caviar.
  • Endangered animals, plants, and their derivative products protected under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) may require protected species permits. For further information, please visit CITES.
  • Non-military weapons and ammunition require a permit for import.
  • Animals must meet the requirements of the Veterinary Service as prescribed by the Ministry of Agriculture.
  • Plants must meet the requirements of the State Phytosanitary Control Service as prescribed by the Ministry of Agriculture.
  • Religious media requires the consent of the State Committee for Work with Religious Organisations of Azerbaijan Republic.
