Export regulations in Laos
Items Free to Export
- Personal belongings and souvenirs: Travelers can export personal items and souvenirs in reasonable quantities.
- Foreign currency: There are no restrictions on the amount of foreign currency that can be taken out of Lao PDR, but amounts exceeding US$2,000 or its equivalent must be declared.
Prohibited Items
The following items are prohibited from export:
- Illegal drugs and narcotics
- Weapons, explosives, and ammunition without proper authorization
- Protected wildlife and their parts (as per CITES regulations)
- Antiques and cultural artifacts without proper permits
- Pornographic materials
Restricted Items

- Local currency (Lao Kip) export is limited to 5,000,000 LAK
- Gold, silver, and precious stones may require authorization
