Saudi Arabia customs export restrictions

Knowing export rules is crucial for all travelers, even if you're not traveling for business. While many focus on import regulations, export rules are equally important and can differ significantly.

Export rules govern what you can and cannot take with you when leaving Saudi Arabia. Before leaving Saudi Arabia make sure to check the allowance and limits for the next things:

  • Alcohol and tobacco
  • Currency
  • Cultural artifacts
  • Plants, fruits, vegetables and other agricultural products

Export regulations in Saudi Arabia

Items Free to Export

  • Personal goods not of a commercial nature.

Prohibited Items

The following are goods which cannot be taken out of the country:

  • Livestock, including horses.
  • Baby milk.
  • Animal feeds such as barley and Sudanese sorghum.
  • Poultry feeds such as yellow corn and soya beans.
  • Natural sand and sand containing minerals.
  • Gas cylinders with the specifications of the National Gas and Industrial Company (GASCO).
  • Zamzam water.

Restricted Items

These goods are strictly regulated, and in most cases require a permit to be obtained prior to departure:

  • Wild animals require approval by the Saudi Wildlife Authority.
  • Wheat requires approval by the Grain Silos and Flour Mills Organisation.
  • Oil derivatives require approval by the General Organisation of Petroleum and Minerals according to a letter signed by the governor or his deputy.
  • Medicament of all kinds.
  • Antiques require approval by the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage.
  • Scrap batteries require approval by the Presidency of Meteorology and Environment.
  • Refilled gas cylinders require attachment of the GASCO invoice.
  • Endangered animals require approval by the Saudi Wildlife Authority.
  • Any funds exceeding SAR60,000 or its foreign equivalent must be declared.
