Tajikistan customs regulations

It is important to know about customs regulations before traveling to Tajikistan to avoid legal issues and potential fines. As you know, customs regulations widely depend on the country. Before traveling to (or from) Tajikistan make sure to check the allowance and limits for the next things:

  • Alcohol and tobacco
  • Currency
  • Medicines (especially those containing drugs)
  • Animals

Duty-free allowance

Tobacco limit

  • 400 cigarettes.

Bringing alcohol

All of the following:

  • 1 litre of alcohol.

Other Goods

  • 4 pieces of jewellery.

Prohibited items

The following are goods which cannot be brought into the country:

  • Obscene publications, such as videos, journals, cassettes, and other media;
  • Drugs;
  • Subversive publications that may disturb public law and order.

Restricted items

These goods are strictly regulated, and in most cases require a permit to be obtained prior to arrival:

  • Narcotic and psychotropic drugs and their precursors must be declared, and must meet the legal requirements of Tajikistan and its international treaties.
  • Items of cultural value require the permission of the Ministry of Culture.
  • Medicinal plants.
  • Articles, books, films, or other medial which compromise state secrets, or promote fascism, racism, or ethnic and religious turmoil.
  • Toxic and radioactive materials.
  • Arms, ammunition, and explosives.
