Duty-free allowance
Tobacco limit
- 2 packs of tobacco products.
Bringing alcohol
- 1.5 litres of alcohol.
Cash limit
- There are no restrictions on the importation of currency into Turkmenistan.
Other Goods
- Up to 60kg of gifts and personal goods for non-commercial use, including 1kg of jewellery.
- Medicines must be accompanied by a prescription.
Prohibited items
The following are goods which cannot be brought into the country:
- Weapons for personal security, such as peppers sprays, knuckle dusters, mace, and stun guns.
- Toy guns and guns that fire plastic bullets.
- Pornographic media.
- Media which may harm the political and economic interests of Turkmenistan, its state security, public health, and morality.
- Explosives and pyrotechnics.
- Nuclear materials, including fuel assembly.
- Ionising radiation sources.
- Technology and equipment which might be used to manufacture weapons and military equipment.
- Narcotic and psychotropic substances.
- Materials for alcohol manufacture.
Restricted items
These goods are strictly regulated, and in most cases require a permit to be obtained prior to arrival.
- Animals, including pets, require an import permit from the State Committee for Environmental Protection and Land Resources of Turkmenistan.
- Firearms and ammunition require a permit from the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Turkmenistan.
- High frequency devices including radio microphones require a permit from the Interdepartmental Commission for Radio Frequencies under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan.
- Pets will be subject to veterinary inspection upon arrival.
- Plants will be subject to phytosanitary inspection upon arrival.
